Geeee, I wonder who's Rookie of the Week...
For what I believe is the 4th time out of the 5(?) awards given so far this season, Sean Greenhalgh has snagged Rookie of the Week honors -- and this time he's also Co-player of the Week (w/Princeton's Boyle, who had 9 pts. vs. Hahvahd). (I don't think there's any doubt left about who the Ivy's ROTY will be... duh...)
Greenhalgh's 11 goals this week (Syr. 6 + Dart. 5) came on only 15 shots!
He easily leads the Ivies in goal-scoring (32 overall & 14 in-league), and he's 7th in the NCAA in total goals (I believe his rank is the same for GPG).
The Ivy League Lacrosse page (much improved, it seems) has details on this week's awards, team summaries, stats, standings, etc.

(P.S. -- Check out Cynar's in-league GAA: 4.29!!! We've had hockey goalies in the somewhat-distant past with GAA's in that range! Damn!)

Reminds me of the season when our empty net had a better GAA than a couple of Clarkson goalies.

Actually, I think Greenhalgh's GPG is even higher than he's being given credit for. He missed one game (Colgate or Canisius, IIRC), so his GPG is 3.56 rather than the 3.2 shown in the statistics.

Good point. I believe he completely missed one of the 16-x blow-outs and only played a quarter (or less -- but still scored!) of the other. I should try to figger out his ranking based on the missed game... of course, there may be other players in the rankings who are also not being given credit for missed games, so...
In any case, with a start like this, you have to wonder whether French's career goals record might eventually be threatened...

I think French played in the three-years-of-eligibility era.
Mike could feed as well as score. The NCAA 25-years-of-championships tape includes his behind-the-head feed to Jon Levine to set up the tying (or maybe it was the go-ahead) goal in the 1976 title game.

Greenhalgh was knocked out in the first quarter of the UMBC game and did not return. He also completely sat out the Penn State game.

Al: Yes, French only had 3 years to score his 191(!) goals ('74-'76). Another amazing thing about him is that he is #1 on the career GOALS list (191), #1 on the career SCORING list (296), and also #3 (assuming Goldstein bumped him down from #2 after '88) on the career ASSISTS list (105)!!! Awesome. (He holds the top 3 spots on the season goals list (65-63-63 -- how's that for consistency?!).) I believe the first class to have freshman eligibility was '79 (Nethery '79 played 4 years). Imagine what French coulda done with that extra year... (P.S. -- I've gotta get that tape!)
Matt: Greenhalgh played vs. Penn State. He scored 3 goals and received his 1st Ivy ROTW award. (That is also the game where he got his lone assist on the season so far.) He missed the last 3/4 of the UMBC game (but not before scoring 2 goals!) and then all of the Canisius game.

Incidentally -- and this is becoming almost routine now! -- the C.U. lax webpage is reporting that Greenhalgh has been named National Player of the Week by Inside Lacrosse. He's pilin' 'em up!!! (I think it's OK to start using the term "freshman sensation"...)
