New Year's resolutions:
1) I will remember not to leave the toilet seat up.
2) I will not buy more than one CD per week.
3) I will not post any more treacly, melodramatic, overlong messages about Cornell lacrosse on eLynah.
OK, so two out of three ain't bad.
It's senior night, and a last-minute change of plans is gonna keep me from going to the game. Bollocks. Although a win tonight would help solidify Cornell's chances for a home playoff game, maybe this is one time to focus on big-picture stuff intead of the specifics of tonight's game. I hope that others will turn out to send off an amazing group of seniors. (Did anyone notice how this morning's article in the Sun about Cornell's top 25 senior athletes included four guys on the lacrosse team?) Best to let the facts speak for themselves:
Cornell's seniors won three consecutive Ivy titles (first time for Cornell since 1980-83).
In their final season, they led Cornell to the first undefeated season in Ivy League play by any team since 2001.
They qualified for the NCAA tournament two consecutive years (first time for Cornell since 1987-88) and three times in four years (first time for Cornell since 1987-89).
They actually won a few NCAA playoff games (Cornell's first playoff wins since 1988) and made it to the Elite Eight twice (losing by one goal each time) -- this is a work in progress.
They broke Princeton's 10-season consecutive Ivy title streak.
They were the first Ivy team to beat Princeton in consecutive years since Yale did it in the late 1980s.
They beat Syracuse twice in four years. (Fifth-year senior Ian Rosenberger, who was red-shirted in the 2003 season, beat Syracuse three times.)
And, of course, they overcame a lot... [media.cornellsun.com]

Do not make 3 a recurring resolution. I appreciate the long posts about lax and I'm sure that I'm not the only one.

There's a live video link for the Hobart game on the Cornell athletics main page. Please don't post this on LaxPower and the like.

Anyone have any luck with the video yet? The audio has started, but the video still tells me 'an error occurred'. Gonna have another fiasco like the Princeton game?

I just get a box that pops up saying "Windows Media Player cannot connect to the server. The server name might not be correct, the server might not be available, or your proxy settings might not be correct."
Very frustrating. No audio using the streaming video connection, just the box.

Cornell finishes the season with a convincing with over Hobart and an 8 game win streak

No, the quarterfinals are played at two neutral sites: Princeton and Johns Hopkins. The audio feed didn't reveal where CU's bracket would be sending its winners, but I'd guess Princeton.

Yeah, we'd go to Princeton. The video showed that.

What it shows is they followed the criteria--flawed though it may be--just as they laid it out. Dartmouth's RPI and strength-of-schedule were just too low.

Okay, but what about the quality wins? Which is either the *only* criteria, or the primary criteria? How did they match up there, how did we?

Yeah. Although those two criteria (RPI and SOS) are allegedly tertiary and secondary, right? I figured that Dartmouth's wins against Maryland, Notre Dame, etc. would get them in the tourney, and the latter stuff would keep 'em unseeded.

I would hate...

... to be a Towson player. Imagine getting a #7 seed and having to face the #3 team in the country. That's gotta hurt! I wonder if they'll drive up watch us play Duke in round 2.
As an side, I was watching us beat Harvard in the ECAC title game at a sports bar in Chapel Hill, NC and Coach Tambroni was there enjoying the game aa few tables away. How funny seeing him there, but nice to see him supporting the icers.

I'm confused. Towson doesn't even have any quality wins. They have LOSSES to three teams in the top 5 RPI (Hopkins, UVA, UMD) and one in the top 15 (Delaware). I'm genuinely expecting to hear that this was a typo or something.

It does not appear that Towson has any top 15 quality wins. Very interesting seeding.

Towson beat #15 and #16 as far as I can see (Delaware and Hofstra), but it doesn't seem those would overcome #6 and #14 (Syracuse and N.D.), now does it?
*This*, ladies and gentlemen, is why a system like PWR, flawed as it may be, beats back room smoke and mirror hands down, any day. I really think, as a friend of mine has said, the "Princeton was no good this year, so the Ivies must suck" factor explains this.
You can say they went on RPI, but then how do you explain Dartmouth's royal screw job? #13 in RPI, clearly #13 or better in quality wins, and no bid. It's the good old boys in the backroom giving it to their friends Syracuse and the southern crowd. You can use whatever logic you want, they do what they want.
To be fair, we maybe didn't deserve a home game last year, so we could say that it evens out, but doing things wrong twice don't make it fair.

Rich and I have come to the conclusion that our bracket is winnable, and therefore we shouldn't worry about it.

Glad I finally got online and got the real results of the game. I picked up the Globe on Saturday morning, anxiously looked for the lax scores, and there it was:
Hobart 5 - Cornell 1 (with no write-up)
I couldn't believe it. How could our boys have been so outplayed that they scored only 1 goal?
Whew. What relief to come here and get the real story.
But still, we're unseeded and have to go to Towson? Maybe the committee saw the 5-1 score and believed it as well. Then again, maybe #7 is in for a little comeuppance.
LGR!!
