Since most of the games' analyses have been done already in the "frozen four" subject line, I thought I would add other observations.

Saw ~7 other alum at the game. Very good representation of our fans. Talked to one of the locals. One of them even used the "Red" yell during the anthem. The other schools (not-involved in the games) with higher representation may be Maine and Wisconsin. One of the OSU attendants gave me some grief as I was wearing a Cornell shirt.

The stadium is pretty amazing for a campus site. For all those that went to Minny, this arena blows past it. On par with Buffalo in term of size. However, it lacks the ambiance of a Lynah. It was kinda pathetic though to see banners with "number of appearances in frozen four" (or something to that ilk).

Minny fans continue to show lack of class as some were booing Parise despite the fact he got ran over by a bunch of players while he was in the crease. I was amazed that Minny fand attended the other games until I realized that there was not much else to do in Columbus.

How come Denver didn't get their cowbell confiscated? They didn't have band to speak of.
There's a local paper in St. Paul (Pioneer Press) with a "Sainted/Tainted" section. If anyone sees a need to taint campus security, feel free...

When we played there two years ago, there were about 5,500 people (officially) in a cavernous 17,500 seat arena; they had fewer than that for a lot of home games (conference games, even) this year. It may fill up for basketball, but it's ridiculous overkill for OSU hockey.

What makes it even more amazing is the OSU program was seriously unhealthy when it was on the drawing board -- as in, people were legitimately concerned they were going to pull a UIC. If it's a morgue now, imagine what it would/will look like when the team is .162 (as they were in 1993).

Bizzare. Why did they build such a big one anyway? Do they have too much money to burn or was it meant as a statement?

Does it double as an arena for other things, like basketball games or concerts or, uh, broomball? ;-)

It's a combined basketball/hockey arena and probably sees use for other things (concerts, etc.) According to folks on HOCKEY-L they generally close down the 300 and 400 levels for OSU hockey games, but squeakball does a better job of filling the place. A check of ESPN.com shows they had 19200 for a bball game against Michigan and even 12000 or so for early season scrub games.

That's about 6380-90 a game average not too bad. But will improve with time and tradition.
