Understandable, but then we are playing Harvard, the one school you hate even more than us, right?
(I know what you mean though, believe me, the thought of having to root for (sucks) on Saturday makes me want to puke, too.)

Let us hope Jessiman's ankle (?) holds out long enough for Dartmouth to win twice this weekend and then he aggrivates the injury scoring in OT Saturday. Dartmouth could be dangerous in the playoffs if the team jells around its returning hero. Or are we going to start the "I saw him play and Jessiman wasn't that good" thread?

I actually hope he turns out to be one of the greatest players to ever live. Isn't he a future New York Ranger? Then again, the way things are going with the NHL, that future is looking mighty cloudy for all players.
If you want to talk about disappointments in the college ranks, I've been pretty disappointed with Montoya's performance for Michigan this season. He's supposed to be the Rangers' goalie of the future. I miss Mike Richter so much. Team USA & the Rangers just aren't the same without him.

Its not like the rangers use any of their prospects anyway. He will be used to trade for some old future hall of famer who is past his prime in a few years.

Maybe a little off topic but i thought this thug was a lil overrated (not the most overrated though). I ran on search on google for "big goon hockey"
You'd never guess what (who) #2 on the list was. Our favorite ex-Clarkson player.

Speaking of overrated, how unimpressed have other people been with Shawn Weller? The guy is astronomically overrated. I have no clue how he played in the WJC's. The guy has 2 goals and 8 assists this year. He has good size and skates pretty well, but doesn't do anything. Very overrated.

I think it's a bit early to say that. He got a late start, then missed games while at the WJC and also with an injury IIRC. And of course, cornell never had anyone who was "overrated", eh?

I could name a couple players on the current team who are overrated, but none of these guys have the amazing reputation that Weller has somehow earned.

Time will tell because some guys take a bit longer adjusting to the college game. I've seen that often the past 30+ years. But perhaps you should place a call to the Ottawa Senators to let them know of their folly. After all, they made a trade to be able to draft him last year.
If memory serves correctly, Weller played with the Capital District Selects and from all reports. he earned his reputation honestly. But no one ever said he'd be a huge point scorer. He's more of the gritty, power forward type.

Well I don't really know of any forwards in the NHL who weren't big point producers in college or major juniors. I can assure you that the Senators are not pleased with his production so far in his college career, but at the same time, know that it takes some guys longer to adjust than others.

Ari ... That's not really true. Power forwards often take longer to develop. There are plenty of guys who weren't big point producers right away. Mike Grier had 18 points in 39 games as a freshman at BU, with a much better supporting cast. John LeClair had issues. There are others. I firmly believe Shane Hynes will be a tremendous pro, and his numbers haven't been spectacular (though better than Weller's). Part of the that is the era and the system.
Weller's biggest problem is his undisciplined penalties - but that's not a secret. It's just too soon to say.

To clarify, I meant that there are no forwards that made the NHL who did not have at least one big season point-wise. Of course one bad year points-wise does not spell the end for Weller, but my point is that his production has been pretty bad. It isn't just power forwards that struggle to make the adjustment of course. Mathieu Beaudoin (a forward who chose Ohio State over Cornell) is a good example at Ohio State. He struggled offensively last year but has been outstanding this year. And then there is much-maligned Adam Pineault of Boston College. He couldn't do anything last year a freshman but has been really good in the QMJHL this year. I call Weller overrated in that I haven't seen much at all from him in the WJC's or the two games I have seen him for Clarkson. He could develop into a great player fulfilling the hype, but playing with good offensive players in an offensive role and getting signficant powerplay minutes hasn't led to production. Hynes played in a similar role as a freshman, playing with upperclassmen in an offensive role and on the second powerplay and was able to put up good numbers. Of course that was a much better team than Clarkson is this year, but Weller still has produced nearly nothing. Aside from that, I haven't seen much in the games I have seen him. Again, he could still make it, but for now, I'm gonna say he's overrated.
RichS, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say the Senators expected a lot more even as a freshman from a player as hyped as he was (to the point where they would trade to a position where they could select him) given the responsibilities he has been given. They obviously haven't given up on him as a freshman, but that doesn't change the fact that they are potentially disappointed with his development to this point.

My beef with Higgins is that a co-POTY should be able to get his byte-team into Albany, and not lost at home. Giving him co-POTY with LeNeveu was a joke.

But RichS is right, most folks here do reflexively defend the hockey team and coaching staff. Not a surprise and not unreasonable. (Aside: I wonder what this board would've looked like during the 92-93 season? Hope we never get a chance to find out...)

Many of the digs at Potsdam here are inaccurate and show ignorance of the North Country. Like it or not, the area has a warm place in my heart and always will much as I imagine Ithaca does for cornellians.
I find it ironic that you folks slam Potsdam all the time while Ithaca is hardly the garden spot of Upstate New York. I've been familiar with Ithaca nearly all my life.
If critcizing me for defending my alma mater is the worst thing one says about me, hey, I can live with that. The reference to your not defending cornell on uscho strikes me as weak. All you said is that cornell is not one of the two best teams currently, in college hockey. Big deal.
I was far less "defending" of the Clarkson administration for their handling of the Morris affair, in fact I was downright critical and I knew a lot of facts to support that. As an alumnus, I'm still critical of the institution at appropriate times. You say I only "claim" to be critical. You obviously do not know thefacts.
And what's wrong with my defending Clarkson at other times, or the hockey team when some people here take inane digs at them? On the old Clarkson Roundtable a few years back, more than one big red fan did exactly that in a far more hostile manner. Did I agree with them? In some cases, I did not like their style but I supported their right to post there. Most of you guys get your dander up pretty much anytime anyone, even a fellow cornellian is critical of your team. Perhaps you should look in the mirror before you fire at others.
You seem a bit miffed at my presence, reference your comment that my defenses are "inappropriate" and rendered so by some "slight". Interesting.

Jon,
By no means was I inferring that you were obnoxious on the old Forum I recall a couple of your brethren though who were. People will react the way they want to, regardless of how much I post. That said, I did post more in the past but last year and this year, with committments to high school and youth coaching, I rarely even get to see or listen to a college game. I hope to catch up as the playoffs begin.
So posting less, because I have not been up to speed, seems appropriate. If I "inspire" reaction, well, perhaps it's because I'm responding (defensively or otherwise) to some of that tongue in cheek needling. If one initiates that stuff, you have to expect to get it in return. Some folks here just don't seem to get that.
And no, Ben, I doubt you'll see me in Ithaca anytime soon, much as I'd like to get there, what with Spring hockey starting soon for my Peewees and Bantams. It will take a minor miracle for Tech to get to Albany.
