Three ECAC teams in the top 15 plus two HMs out of 12 isn't bad. If only RPI (ratings not the safety school) followed up the ladder so nicely for Cornell.

Team (First Place) Record Pts Last Week

I know it will be Sneddon, and I know I'm biased, but still I'm pretty sure who ECAC COTY ought to be.

Looking at the USA Today poll, I had no idea Colorado had a hockey team. Go Buffaloes! :-P
On that note, didn't USA Today used to spell out the whole name of the university/college? They still do with Boston College and Dartmouth College, but the others are just "Minnesota" and "Ohio State".

Edit: On the link above, to the actual USA Today site, the full name is not used. However, the USA Today poll that's linked on USCHO does have the full names. Odd.

I like the respect the program is getting, but I have to feel we are being overrated. We have played a pretty weak schedule, especially the last few games, while the WCHA teams are beating each other up. If I had to put us somewhere, I'd put us around 4th or 5th. If I had my way, I'd like to win the ECAC, and go to the tourny as a #1 seed, but as the 4th number 1, so we can kind of sneak up on people. I'd much rather have opponents underestimate us than overestimate us come tourny time.

I have a feeling that once the PRW has shaken out we will be 4th-6th. It would be great to go into the Tourney as a #1 seed, but if we do it would definatly be the 4th #1.

I too would love to win the ECAC, but my greatest fantasy for the season would be getting to the Frozen Four again. I think that would justify all the respect the program is getting (and of course would keep us nice and visible for recruiting purposes.)

P.S. I hate that there's no spell checker on eLf. :S

There is a roundabout spell checker if you write long missives (like I create anything else? <g> ) in Word, which also allows you to actually be able read what you're typing if you no longer have eagle eyes, and then paste it into ELF. (Making sure Word doesn't mess up any open or close quotes in the process.)

I wanted to be first to post the poll but I really wanted to put the formatting in (*and* make sure it works by hitting the Preview button) so you got there first. If you put [ PRE ] (no spaces) before the poll tabular material and then [ /PRE ] (no spaces) after it, you've got it formatted so it's easier to read.

Interesting that the team with the most first place votes, Cornell (12), ends up third in the poll. Must be a lot of volatility at the top!

Note that Cornell got the most first place votes in the USA Today poll. I have to admit it's nice when I can say to my coworkers that Cornell is the "top ranked team in the country" when they see me strolling around on Fridays with my jersey on, but honestly: how many of you are confident that Cornell is really the first or third best team in the country? I haven't seen enough out-of-conference play to know! **]

Look at the total points. Positions 1-2 are only one voting point apart, and 1-3 are eight voting points apart.

It seems from the USA Today poll that there are a bunch of people really high on Cornell (those 12 first place votes) and a bunch of people who think we're not top four material.

My inner Cornell geek tells me that 483 total points minus 15 times 12 first place votes leaves 273 points for the other 14 votes.

273/14 is about 11.4 points/vote.

So that's an average rank of 3.6 for those 22 votes.

Which, according to alot of people even here, is a more likely representation of where we stand.

Of course, you can always blame the WCHA bias :-P

Probably a bunch of western voters put Cornell way down, while the easterners didn't stick it to CC or Denver. Thus Cornell getting lots of #1 votes but not being in first overall.

Our getting all those #1 votes is going to be extra ammo for St. Lawrence and Clarkson this coming weekend. That and a chance to mess up the nation's longest unbeaten record. Fortunately, we all know McKee and the Cornell D are going to post a pair of shu--

... hey, what happened, all of a sudden my monitor went dim just as I was typing "shu-" ... sheesh, there it goes again. It's as if some force field was trying to take control of the PC.

It's actually 453-15x12, but since the 273 answer is correct, I assume that's a typo.
Also, it's 22 other votes, not 14 (although it looks like you divided by 24), so 273/22 = 12.4

Actually, 11.4 points/ vote would be an average rank is 4.6. However, since the actual result is 12.4 points/vote, the 3.6 average for the 22 votes is correct.
