Early shots are 4-1, CU. Mayotte (the UC goalie) has been pretty good this year.

Not sure if gametracker has the actual lines or just a list of LW RW C etcetera. It shows

LW - C - RW
Vart - Abbott Chris - Sawada (who just drew a boarding call)
Moulson - Bitz - Hynes
Knoepfli - Iggulden - Carefoot
Scott (it says) - Pegoraro - McCutcheon

Pokoluk - Cook
Krantz - O'Bryne
Downs - Gleed

McKee
Chabot

Before the penalty, Haynes (?) has a breakaway that maybe takes 5 seconds and takes the announcers 10 seconds to try to describe in real time.

Scott good playmaking sets up Bitz and Moulson for a good chance just after the pp expires, but Mayotte stops it. Early shots, 8-2 CU.

Cornell now kills a full pp. Abbott and Moulson with a nice 2x1 after the kills, but UC D makes a great block.

Hynes draws a penalty going after a rebound and so Cornell is back on the pp, already having territorial advantage. Good time for a cash-in.

Great McKee save shorthanded on Swan. 30 second difference between end of CU penalty and period. Another great turnover force by Brady but McKee a big save (again).

So, after two periods we have a very good game. Apparently Union has gotten their act together; if anything, they are outplaying the Red for long stretches of the game. Moulson's goal sounds like it may have been a rebound deflection... it came only a minute after Mayotte stoned him solid with a point blank chance.

50/50 proposition as we go to the third. Get somebody in front of Mayotte -- we aint gonna beat him with any first shots.

Too bad Gametracker doesn't have a real time clock. It's more, Clock Updated Every Penalty.

Still, this is something we wouldn't have had in 1990.

And in 2010, we'll have HD feeds over the Web. Still looking through the netting thoughwhich reduces it to <SD.

Webb with a short handed chance, McKee makes the save but left a huge rebound that Cornell cleared, then Cornell gets a quality counter-attack chance that Mayotte stops.

Some kind soul in Ithaca should tune WHCU-AM into his PC and then stream the feed to us. Yeah, it'd be blatant copyright violation, but what court would convict when we all paid for the feed anyhow.

(There's a sort of distant parallel that in NYC the police are cracking down on turnstile jumping, but it turns out you can't convict someone who holds a monthly MetroCard, because the violation is "Evasion of Fare" and since the person has paid the fare, if he vaults the turnstile when the strip reader messes up again, it's still not illegal.)

Indeed, it would be nice for Cornell to get 4-5 goals every game. On the other hand, winning in OT is always a morale-booster, and winning short-handed is a real morale booster. It has been a while since we did that and a really long time since we did it the second time.

A 1-1 tie to Union would have been one of those games where, at the end of February, we'd look backand say the reason we couldn't overhaul Colgate for the ECAC regular season title was failing to beat teams like Union at Union.

So now we're 1-1 in January, which is a darn sight better than 0-1-1 in January, and the team has a 1.00 GAA for the month.

And I didn't get to hear it, thanks, RealAudio. Please, keep my $7 this month, you've really earned it. (I'm a little pissed off at the moment, if you couldn't tell.)

I think you mean 2-1.

Just got back from the game. Unbelievable win. Union is an extremely hard working team and they outworked Cornell for the first two periods. Cornell played the third period and overtime like it was the playoffs, battling extremely hard and matching Union's work ethic. Other than work ethic, Union has very little skill and no size whatsoever. Mayotte played unbelievable to the point where it was gonna take a perfect shot to beat him, and Cornell had two perfect shots tonight. Great win. Cornell superior to Union in almost every way, but they worked soooo hard. Best game of the season for Krantz. Sawada was unbelievable but Dupree thought he was reffing a women's game so he called every clean check. Unbelievable. Officiating is a joke. It was very much a playoff-like game tonight and Cornell battled harder as the game progressed. Great signs in this win.
The only negative is Byron Bitz who was just brutal. Schafer finally took him off the powerplay in the second period after countless mistakes and the powerplay responded right away with their goal. He needs to be moved to the wing on a checking line. He is getting knocked down way too much for a player his size and struggling mightily with the puck.

Gametracker credits McKee with 65:00 played despite goal coming 3:08 into OT. This should help his GAA, which is either 0.950 (for this game only) if he played 63:08 or 0.923 if he played the the 65:00 Gametracker claims.

He also had 26 saves which is .962. Not bad.

Now Iggulden, first star here, with McKee second star and Union goalie Kris Mayotte #3, has the Everblades MVP from 2003-04 (2 of the 4 goals in titel game) and this game as really special.

It may be less than 63:08 because we had a delayed powerplay for a while in the second period and McKee may have been out for a few seconds.

Hmm, you're right, we did precede the Harvard game with the 4-2 win over Brown, so we came very close to being 1-1-1 for the month, not 0-1-1, and our GAA for January is 4 goals in 3 games or, let me see here, 1.33. Not enough to overtake Jim Howard who overtook St. Leneveu's 1.2 for the entire season, but still pretty good.

Avoid - January - slump.

I'm not asking for 4-5 goals. How about 2 to 3 (without needing OT even?? twitch). I agree that winning in OT could help, and I hope it snaps them out of or into something. I believe this team is capable cause I've seen the 6 or 7 goal games they've put up against weaker teams.

I'm just talking about the other side of the coin. What if it doesn't make any difference. What if we keep scoring 1 or 2 goals against teams with any semblence of talent? We'll win the games we should, which is great, and not too many others. But we'd never make it through the ECAC Final Four and if we got a bid, we'd be dead in the water in the first round. I'm not saying that'll happen, but I'm saying, as a fan, I'd like proof that it won't. We got away with one here, and if they pick it up it'll be great to not have to look back on this as a wasteful loss. But if they keep playing like this, we won't need to look back for bad losses and ties.

Yeah, we have a 1.00 GAA in January, but in regulation, we have a 0.50 GFA... ::shudder:: I'm just getting tired of thinking that this team needs to pick it up against good competition, and I'd like to see them actually pick it up for once. That's the steam I'm blowing off here.

Greg, not sure what you're talking about with Mayotte. His GAA is 3.0 . If we had scored 3 goals in regulation, I woulda been fine with the offense, no matter what else happened. Mrazak is better with a 2.0 GAA with pretty much the same number of games played. Of course, Tartar, with his 0.00 GAA with 1 minute played, is the one to be feared ;)

Exactly right. Allowing 1 goal a game, 2 at most, we'll knock off someone higher-seeded in the NCAAs who can't cope with Cornell's defense. But you can't go all the way to the title game scoring 1 and 2 goals a game.

But still. It's a long way away. Maybe CalgARI is right with his quick game report and we need to find a home for Bitz that's not between two wings. Maybe the loss of Cam Abbot is hurting.

We are still a Tim Taylor (caliber attacker) away from being the national champion?

Ha. That and a ton of practice. Yeah right.

I'm sorry guys, this team is capable, but they haven't done anything yet to show me that they're ECAC title caliber (maybe half a step below) nevermind National Championship. Harvard, Vermont, and Colgate are probably all better than us in the ECAC right now. At least right about even.

I don't want people to get the feeling that I think we're a bad team. We're not. But we're not a great team either, not yet. We can be, but we haven't been. And thinking that we're nearly national champion is a silly. That would be require events of a miraculous nature.

You're not giving Union any credit. We looked a little slow tonight but they impressed me. Mayotte especially looked sharp.

Has the team ever had a SH-GWG in OT before tonight?

Whenever the feed goes down, email them. They're good about refunds.
