1-1 after one. PPG for Princeton and Chris Abbott tied it for Cornell in the final minute. Shots 11-3 Cornell.

2-2; sloppy play in defensive end and apparently in off Varteressian's skate.

Cornell created all sorts of pretty good chances with no scores, Prin got their goal off a faceoff and quick screen shot..

Cornell came back and the sawad goal came off a a real good shift the puck got thrown at the goal and the goalie lost it behind him and sawada swooped in and made the 6 in shot..

Prin just had a flurry and scored 2-2//

Thanks for the updates, Al.

I just noticed that the first post in the Cornell/Yale thread sounds an awful lot like mine. Weird. twitch

Another great shake-and-bake move by Pokulok in the first period...shuffling by two Princeton players to set up a wrist shot from close in the slot. Leroux made a great save. Amazing moves for a frosh D.

Shots 25-12 after two.

Indeed an amazing move by Pokoluk in the first. If he scored, it would've made the highlight tape.

5-3 win, first time Cornell gives up > 2 goals this season; had to happen some time. The outcome could have been better say 6-2 but it could have also been a 4-4 tie. This was not the Princeton that was blown out by Yale.

All three were strange goals, from my perspective. The first was a shot from the point on a PP that hit something in a crowd and went in. The second apparently went in off Vart's skate. And the third was shorthanded on a giveaway by Polulok.

Best team Princeton has had in years. Cornell played pretty well, particularly the forwards. The defensemen had an off weekend though.

Best team in years but not that many years. It does seem like a typo every time you see it, but there it is: 1997-98 - ECAC - tournament champion - Princeton.

That would be the year Princeton lost to defending ECAC tournament champ Cornell in the regular season 2-1 and 4-1 and then took out Cornell 6-2 in an ECAC "final five play-in" game in Lake Placid. Princeton only lost by 2-1 to eventual champion Michigan in the NCAA first round. Proof the puck can take odd bounces.

Princeton NCAA Championship

Princeton WAS a talented squad that year. E.g., Washington Capitals forward Jeff Halpern was on their roster at the time. Halpern's an interesting story. Grew up in hockey hotbed Washington, D.C. (actually Potomac, MD). Princeton was probably the only D1 hockey school far enough south for him to appear on their radar. Halpern's sophomore year (the previous), Princeton was knocked out of the NCAA's by eventual champion Michigan. The year after their NCAA championship, Princeton tied for the Ivy hockey title with Yale!

I think we have to get used to Princeton doing well. They are only graduating four players this year, and none of those players are particularly good. If they can improve their goaltending, they could legitimately compete in a couple years.

Based on these weekend results of the top 15, doesn't look like a whole lot of change. Maybe the top spots shuffle, except #1 Minnesota and #3 Colorado College splitting a series is not an improbable outcome. In the 10 to 15 bracket, all winners except a T-W for #10 Maine and an L-L for #14 Minn-Duluth (but to #4 Wisconsin). Looks like Cornell heads into exams around #12 and that seems about right given our defensive excellence and sometimes credible offense.

Can't believe Vermont is on such a long winning [correction: unbeaten] streak. How could we have blown a 2-0 lead to them last month?

Nice to see a small school like CC back near the top. I still wish it had been CC-Cornell for the title in 2003. Would've had the final game announcers blathering on about big school, small school academic excellence, yada yada.

[edited to changed winning to unbeaten]

They're on a 4 game winning streak. I think perhaps you meant unbeaten streak.
