Seems as though that's the case every single game. Imperative word: almost.

3 goals with an empty netter against a weak team- sounds like we still have some problem capitalizing on offense? our D and goaltending seems consistently good though.

not a bad night for the ecac - although a bad loss almost wipes out all the wins. rip lost to air force???? wow, that is not good.

Also, the Canisius goalie came in with a save percentage of about .940.

Canisius had perhaps 2 decent chances all night, one of them shorthanded off a mistake. A defense that stifling is a work of art, even if we do take it for granted at this point.

Kind of sloppy play even though we definitely dominated them. A couple of mistakes could have cost us if not for McKee.

That team was pretty bad skill-wise, moreso than Sacred Heart and Army, but I will give them credit in that they battled hard from start to finish tonight. They had far better scoring chances (mostly as a result of slopping Cornell plays) than Sacred Heart or Army but they couldn't convert and I actually thought McKee played well for only having to make 13 saves.
Getting a little bit concerned with Cornell's offense, not because they didn't blow out Canisius tonight, but because it genuinely seems as if this team is struggling to get chances and convert them.

How was the real attendence? Thanksgiving Weekend is often pretty bad.

Townies were all there. Student sections, perhaps 75% full.

I've certainly seen worse attendance at games during breaks. As Age said, there were lots of holes in the student sections, especially E and F more than A, B, or D. Cornell has done a good job some years of asking people to donate their tickets for Thanksgiving weekend games if they'll be away, so local kids can use them, but I don't think that happened this year. At least, I didn't hear about it.

Still scratching my head over the "3-1 shutout," since most of the folks around me in section C (at least, those who saw it clearly) agreed that the Canisius shot that "hit the post" near the end of the first actually went in, hit the back post, and bounced back out.

I was surprised Canisius didn't make more of a ruckus about it. Of course, we could all have imagined it. And, of course, I'm happy to have the shutout on McKee's record. But I'd still love to see video.

Looked in to me and my neighbors, but we were even further away in section A. The most evidence for it being a goal is that you didn't hear it clank off the post like it would have if it hit the cross bar. However, the goal judge behind the net and the referee didn't think it went in, and they probably had a better look than we did.

Luckily, the ref was way behind the play and not even close to being in position to make the call and the goal judge didn't seem to see it.

Looked to me (middle of section D) that it went off the inside corner of the post and out... but then it could have just been my biased vision? I had a rather unobstructed view seeing that the front couple rows were mostly empty and/or sitting down.

Defense is awesome. Nobody has gotten more than two goals against Cornell and the GA average is 1.22, more than half a goal better than anyone else.

Offense started out awesome: 23 goals in the first four games. Then 7 in the next five. And the power play hasn't been so powerful lately.

You'd think if you can hold opponents to 2 goals a game, you've got a shot at being unbeaten and instead it's 5-2-2. (Well, with a bit more luck on the Vermont/Dartmouth lost weekend, like no third period collapse from a 2-0 lead, and holding a tie for five minutes of OT, the record could be 6-1-3.) Is this deja vu all over again? Maybe Mike Shafer-coached teams start good and and only get better on defense, and it's the offense that takes a while to jell. Let us hope Cornell goes into exams at 7-2-2, maybe with a Topher Scott / Little Big Man reprise of the Ryan Vesce 7-point game against Princeton and something equally run-it-up against the Elis.

Or, knowing how fickle the voters can be sometimes, we'll drop out of the top 15 completely. Sure, we won over Canisius, but let's face it, it's just Canisius. Colgate and UNO, the effective #16 and #17, had good weekends. So, who knows? We'll find out later today.
