Michigan/BU game today

I went to the Michigan destruction of Boston University this afternoon here in Dayton. Michigan looked REALLY good, despite their lackluster performance Friday night against Northeastern.

But anyway, the most exciting part of the day was not the game. In attendance, a few rows behind me, was Ray Borque (!!!), watching his son, a freshman, play for BU. So, I got his autograph and shook his hand and all that. It was awesome; he was really cool about it, despite the fact that at the time I talked to him, his son's team was down 7-0. Anyway, just thought I'd share... :-)

Very weird results at there this weekend. Northeastern beating Michigan was a huge surprise, considering Michigan is without question the best team in the NCAA and Northeastern is an average at best team. Then, BU who was suppossed to be much improved this year gets destroyed by Michigan today.
There were actually four Flames prospects in the game today. How did Moss (Michigan), Vandergulik (BU), and McConnell (BU) look? I know Nystrom was hurt and didn't play.

Despite the description of the first goal in the USCHO recap, it looked more like Moss made a really nice pass through the crease (as opposed to a shot) to Tyler Kolarik's younger brother Chad to open up the scoring early in the first period. Moss was good the rest of the time too; he also must have logged a lot of ice time because it semed like he was ALWAYS on th ice. Van der gulik seemed like a goon; he seemed to be shoving the Michigan players every time there was a stoppage. McConnell is big; he looked like Hynes actually. Not many BU players played well. Jack Parker said after the game that he was impressed with the freshmen (including Borque, who started) and that was about it. But I thought McConnell (who also started) played pretty well too, at least off the puck but when he had it, he never seemed to skate with it for long. He didn't make any glaring mistakes like most of his teammates did (their defensive play was AWFUL).

Well that's about all I can remember; Ari, I made sure to watch those 3 a little more closely because I knew you'd ask about them :-)

No insight on how he played except that he scored two mop up goals once BU was down 7-0. Sorry for this post but I very infrequently get to shout out about a home town hockey player. Most of our athletes are football or soccer players.

Pete's father was my JV tennis coach. I didn't know Pete well except that he was a VERY competitive tennis player (he must have been in like 6th or 7th grade and on JV when I was much older and on JV) but his Dad was a great guy. Pete took quite a journey to get to D-I hockey so I'm all for following him if there's interest.

He scored BU's two goals in the final minutes of the game, but unfortunately, I left about halfway through the 3rd period because I had to go somewhere else, so, obviously, I didn't see his two goals. And to be honest, I don't really remember seeing him much thefirst 2 periods - but that really mean much :-)
