Colgate tied by Vermont.
A good night for Cornell in terms of league results. If Yale holds on, points standings will be:
23 Brown (W)
21 Colgate (T)
20 Yale (W)
18 Dartmouth (L)
17 Cornell (W)
17 RPI (L)
14 Clarkson (L)
Tomorrow night:
Brown plays Yale
Colgate plays Dartmouth
Clarkson plays RPI
so Cornell has a golden opportunity to pick up points on half the bye contenders.

Ivy Standings
Posted by: Chris '03 (---.phil.east.verizon.net)

If my math is correct, here are the new (albeit pretty meaningless) Ivy standings:
Brown 6-1-1 13pts.... 2 games left (@Y, vs D)
Cornell 5-2-1 11p........2 to play (vs P/Y)
Dartmouth 4-1-1 9p..... 4 to play (vs Y/P, @B/H)
Princeton 3-5 6p .... 2 to play (@C, @D)
Harvard 2-6-1 5p..... 1 to play (vs D)
Yale 1-6 2p ..... 3 to play (@C,@D, vs. B)
H/Y/P are all out of the running. B and D both sort of control their own destiny. If either team wins out, it's all theirs. If B goes 1-1, C goes 2-0, and D goes 3-1, it's a three way tie.

Is it just me, or is this guy Juan Martinez the worst writer on USCHO. This guy has never once mentioned all the injuries the Red has had to deal with and in general shows absolutely no depth of knowledge when it comes to the details behind the performance of any of the ECAC teams. I know that this league is tough to cover, unpredictable teams that are up and down etc. etc. but this guy's articles are the blandest and most devoid of any real information that I've ever read. I used to wait for Moy and Adam's articles, but it's a waste of time reading this guy!

No tie-breakers are used in the Ivy race. The championship is shared.

Basically, Brown has to get 2 points or less out of its remaining Ivy League games (Yale, Dartmouth) in order for us to have a chance of winning the Ivy title.
Of course, rooting for Yale and/or Dartmouth may also eventually cost us a first round bye in the ECAC playoffs. (Well, the rooting itself won't......oh you know what I mean......)

Ugly game to watch, as the two absolutely horrendous turnovers in Dartmouth's own zone (I believe both by freshmen D) was the difference in the game. Once is forgiveable, twice is carelessness. And the fact that Dartmouth played like a bunch of goons isn't helping matters. Though, none of Cornell's injuries came on goon-like plays.
Cook early on was hurt on a clean but hard hit on the endboards. If Schafer was pissed about that one, he shouldn't have been. It wasn't dirty.
Likewise, the one guy who got kicked lost an edge or something as the Dartmouth guy was lining him up, fell down and was spinning on the ice, and the Dartmouth guy had nowhere to go. Definitely wasn't malicious, just bad luck that his head was turning toward the Dartmouth player as he made contact, but it couldn't have been avoided either.
McKee I have no idea what happened. Dartmouth had about a 5-shot flurry on the PP and there was about a 6 player scrum in front of the net while the play was going on. All of a sudden McKee goes down and starts rolling, the ref blows the whistle though Dartmouth has the puck and is facing an empty net, and the crowd was ticked off. I thought he was holding his head, but I suppose it could've been the leg.
But Guimond's hit from behind was blatent and dangerous, and the major/game misconduct was far more appropriate than the one last weekend against Union. I was just ticked that the ref (Kotyra) was looking right at it and didn't call it, but the linesman did. I thought linesmen were only supposed to call stuff the ref doesn't see.
Otherwise Kotyra let alot of stuff go. A few slashes by Dartmouth, one pretty blatent high stick by Cornell, at least he was even for the most part. Dartmouth probably benefited given that they haven't been the cleanest team the last 4-5 periods of play going back to the second half of the Union game.
And while Cornell may not be "clutch and grab", they are "get it to the boards and scrum for 30 seconds" - effective, legal, but about as fun to watch as the neutral zone trap. And really it didn't generate much offense for em. 2 PPG's and 2 breakaway goals off horrendus turnovers, they didn't generate much off their set offense.
Oh, and the last play that you never really got a good description of. Cornell shot from the right circle beat Yacey either 5-hole or just wide, hit the left post, and came straight out. Kotyra was right there and immediately signaled no goal.

and scroll down to Cornell
the quicktime video shows the hit on Cook right at the begining and the injury to McKee at the end. I still can't tell what happened to McKee even after seeing it (not the greatest quality).

You heard it here first ... Cornell does not "clutch and grab" ...
As for generating offense ... it's more about wearing the other down w/ physical play. When they're as banged as they are now the system tends not to work as well. BTW, "get it to the boards and scrum for 30 seconds" IS cornell hockey ... we loved that sh*t!
Thanks for the recap Ben

from what i can tell mckee was on the right post...the puck moved in between the circles and mckee stayed with it and possibly made a save there...then he loooks like he jumps quickly back across to the right post to save what looks like a wrap around shot or something similar...and then he's down on his back

Thanks Ben... the McKee injury definitely seems pretty random, he musta just ended up in an odd position and pulled something. With all out injuries, I'm gonna guess that Schafer plays it safe and puts in Marr tonight... let McKee get to 100%, unless somehow he is already.
To be fair, your description made it sound like McKee went down, the puck popped out to an open guy, and the ref immediately blew the whistle. That clearly wasn't the case . McKee went down, the puck went to the corner, McKee was writhing around for a good 2 or 3 seconds while Dartmouth brought the puck behind the net and around, just as they began to move out front, the ref blew the whistle. If anything, it was a late whistle, which could only add to the frustration, but there's no way that could be a goal.
That video is very Dartmouth-centered... which is to be expected, I guess. Still I was disappointed that a 'highlights' video only showed 2 of the 6 goals. Age used to post all the goals .
Thanks for the info, maybe we'll see ya in Albany .... or the 2nd round.
