He was asked if he was happy to get so many minutes in place of Marr...and he turned it around saying he wasn't happy or lucky that Todd was injured...he was just happy that he was able to perform well when given the opportunity.

highly over rated? Granted their big wins were their first two games (Minnesota and Wisconsin), but their two losses came on the road at UNH and BC...that isn't over rated, IMO. If anything, people could say we are over rated based on our PWR

when you see the team play, you'll know they are definitely not the third best team in the country as they are ranked. they are well coached but still are not even close to the caliber of BC or UND. I expect that they will fall off just as they did last season. Don't forget their hot start last season and how the second half ended up. their big names like Jackson and Shields have really started to cool down after hot starts. their strong defensive scheme will cover it up for the short term but I am not even remotely confident in their goaltending and the defensive scheme will eventually crumble as a result like last year. overrated.

at 22, cornell isn't placed all that bad especially if they can come up with another win tomorrow. if they can crack the top 12, they'll be in good shape for an at large bid. with all inner conference games in the second half, they SHOULD be poised to win a fair amount and get up their in the PWR. of course, their results against the Browns, Dartmouths, Harvards, and even RPI's will be VERY important in determining their PWR standing. Regardless, win the ECAC post season and we don't have to worry about it. Anything can happen in the playoffs.

It's the first time Cornell has advanced to the Championship of "their own tournament"...Cornells first power play really changed the momentum of the first period after ND came out quickly. ND dominated most of the 2nd period, 14-7 on shots in favor of ND during the period, but Cornell was able to hold off ND and increase the lead to 2. Cornell was the "quick strike" team tonight. Knoepfli's "bolt of lightning" was a very impressive goal and McKee made a sick save when he dove head first to block an open side of the net. After the 4 goal lead, Schafer gave some of the guys that are lower on the depth chart more playing time instead of pressing for Knoepfli's hat trick.

It was great to see Knoepfli, Carefoot, and McCutcheon play forward for a shift during the last power play. I thought it was a nice combination of giving fourth-line freshman power-play time and giving Mike Knoepfli an opportunity to score his third goal. Also, Evan Salmela played with Ben Wallace on that shift.
Knoepfli had a great chance for a hat trick earlier in the period, but Scott Brown stopped his shot from the slot.
Other than the first 16 or so minutes of the second period, Cornell played great hockey. Let's hope the third-period comeback against Brown proves to be the turning point of the season.

Am I crazy to have actually wished to take on Maine instead of Ohio State tomorrow? Granted, Maine has been ranked higher in the polls, but Ohio State already played us this year and would theoretically remember how we play better than Maine would.

How bout McKee today??? He's really stepped up his game. While some of his saves were very acrobatic, it's even more encouraging that he was making a lot of solid stops just from having good positioning on the shooter.
His current shutout streak is now at 151 minutes, 39 seconds. The Cornell record is 189:48, set by Brian Cropper during the season.
Two more periods will do it.

I was actually hoping that we would play Maine tomorrow, but for a different reason (if my reasoning is sound).
Our non-conference performance up to this point in the season had been bad. So, my reasoning was that playing and beating a higher ranked team would help us out more, and losing to them can't do too much damage. Playing a lower ranked team (albeit higher than us) seems to me would be a 0 sum gain.
As to the point of OSU knowing how we play, 2 points against that reasoning. 1st, I think we've developed quite a bit from the beginning of the season, so in effect, I think we are a different team. 2nd, if, however, they do know how we play, then we know how they play, and Coach Schafer is pretty good at figuring teams out, so I don't think we'd be at any particular disadvantage.
Just my $0.02.

Report from Estero: Very impressed with McKee - terrific positioning and poise, despite heavy ND pressure in 2nd period and parts of third. Never seemed to get flustered at all. Our penalties were either on freshman, who will learn to get better position rather than take the penalty, or on Hornby. Of all the freshman, O'Byrne appeared to be the one having the most trouble adjusting to playing at this level - but that's a quick one game conclusion and I'm sure he'll improve immensely.
On a lighter note, in between the 1st and 2nd period, Traveling Faithful Larry Weintraub and Jeff Newman defeated two ND fans in the "alligator race." Although Mike Craine didn't win the bicycle race after the 2nd period, he quickly reminded his ND opponent of the real contest, by pointing up to the center ice scoreboard.
