Much as most of us suspected, we're right behind Harvard (sucks).

There's never been a year in which the "major" pre-season polls were so alike: [members.cox.net]

Greg, you're including yourself as one of the "major" pre-season polls, I see.

No real surprises in the poll, meaningless as it may be.
Equally as meaningless is, of course, the preseason all-ECAC team, BUT with that said, I've never thought that Danis is as good as Grumet-Morris. Nice to see Vesce recognized though...

...but not surprising. The guy has been the best forward on the team for the past two years, but suffered from the shadow of playing on Bâby's line.

All-ECAC team once again = All-Ivy team
(1) Brown. (1) Cornell (1) Dartmouth (2) Harvard(sucks) and (1) Yale

Good golly, what does one have to do to be picked first? We could have won the national championship last year and returned all our starters and they still would have put Harvard on top.
What do we have to do...

Um, we were number one in the pre-season polls last season (all except for the all knowing TBRW "poll" and it was certainly merited. If Schafer had found an eligibility loophole that allowed Murray and Bâby to return (and found a wealthy alum to bribe them and Lenny) we'd probably have been picked #1. In this reality, Harvard may have more proven returning talent and therefore is ranked ahead of us.
Remember, the pre-season poll is not the fabled championship belt. Winning the ECAC does not and should not guarantee a #1 pick in this poll. If it did, the poll would, if possible, mean even less than it already does.

I read the article on the CU page, but where else could I find some information on the media day?

I'm wondering which coach (besides Mazz, who couldn't pick his own team) picked Cornell to finish first. Harvard may not win--you do have to play the games--but they sure return the most experience...and, by almost any measure, talent.

Good Question. It looks like the ECAC website is still up to its usual high standards.

Here's the USCHO article:

Tom Caron wins no awards from me. I didn't realize he was plural, either.

The ECAC women's poll was also released:
At first I was confused as to where Clarkson was on the women's poll, since they are (finally) fielding a varsity team and plays Cornell twice this season, but some research revealed that they are playing as a D-I independent this season and will join the ECAC in '04-'05.

Maybe Dan Fridgen of RPI? We played them four times last year and ended up beating them pretty handily for the most part. It also could have been any of the four new (well, three, really, I guess) ECAC coaches.

Hey, let Harvard sit on top in the polls and be number one - translation: I have a huge target painted n my back. We're better off at number two or lower because other teams won't be gunning so hard for us. Nobody will take us so seriously and it will be all that much sweeter when we beat the pants off all of them!

After two years on top of the league I doubt anyone will take us less seriously just because we're #2 in a pre-season poll instead of #1...

Exactly - we swept 8(!) ECAC teams last year. It's revenge time for them, and anyone who thinks Colgate, Brown, and Dartmouth are going to take us lightly is awfully optimistic!

Seniors who hate us: records v. Cornell in their tenure (years knocked out of ECACs by us)
0-6-1 Brown (2003)
1-6-0 Clarkson
1-4-1 Colgate
4-1-1 Dartmouth
2-6-0 Harvard (2001, 2003)
1-7-0 Princeton (2001)
1-8-0 RPI (2002, 2003)
3-3-1 St. Lawrence
1-5-0 Union
0-6-0 Vermont
1-6-1 Yale (2002)
Unless you're from SLU or Dartmouth, you've got a score to settle with Cornell.

I didn't realize Brown was winless against us...kinda figured it about Vermont, though.

for roger grillo, brown's head coach, his winless streak against cornell is even longer... the last time cornell lost to brown: february 20, 1998.
