I was wondering if anyone is planning to tape Sportscenter tonight. If you are, can you find a way to convert to avi or mpg and post it somewhere? I won't be around tonight and i want to see McRae's goal as number one!

How 'bout a little Stuart Scott right here:
"Lenny is huge in the first OT...boo-yah!"
"Lenny says, see ya in Buffalo, Mr. Eaves, but you'll have to buy a ticket!"
Na-na-NAH. Na-na-NAH.

There is, of course, the flip side, something like this:
"It's my favorite time of year, tournament time, baby! Cornell and BC today, a true Maalox masher! I can't say enough about David LeNeveu, he's a true PTPer! He was great as a diaper dandy last year, but he has really stepped up this season! And senior leadership comes through again, with Matt McRae getting the goal to give Cornell the W! That goal was super, scintillating, sensational! I'm telling you, there's something special about this Cornell Big Red team - they're awesome, baby, with a capital A!"
maybe would be the more appropriate smiley?

Cornell Minnesota for championship? I didnt get to see much eastern hockey this year, but in the playoffs the west regionals seemed to have plenty of goals, and the east not so much. I was just wondering if anyone could shed some light on this. Is it just that these teams play each other so much they know how to defend, cuz in both western regionals i think all the teams were playing for the 1st time.
anyway congrats , and whats up with the times for the games. Noon and 6? wheres the prime time? college hockey just doesnt get the respect it should.

Well, I captured it as an mpg, but I don't know what to do with it since it looks like my isp won't allow me to upload such a large file --the file is ~4mb-- to the webspace they give me. Emailing is out too since I know they cap the size of attachments. Here's my best solution: I've uploaded it to some free Yahoo space. The say that there is no public access to the free space, but I think a direct link to it may still work (I hope):
EDIT: I removed the link because it's not working, but I'll figure a way to get it to Age.

Actually one of the top ten reasons why college hockey is better than college basketball would be "NO DICK VITALE".
The proper smiley is when it comes to that annoying clown.

I usually phrase it as a comparison between Bob Norton and Dick Vitale.
Right up there with "Nobody ever changed their name to rhyme with 'Hobey'."

Stuart Scott and Kevin Frazier didn't really say much during the Cornell-BC highlight on Top Plays... I bet they were either unprepared for the highlight (as far as having anything to read off the telestrater [sp?]) or were uninterested. I wouldn't be surprised if we CU folk have an insider in the ESPN ranks who's making sure we make the highlights every week.
Not that I have anything wrong with being in the highlights...

Overtime goals in the playoffs are just exciting plays. I don't think it is a conspiracy. They had an actual segment on NCAA hockey at the end of the half hour on ESPNews.

Actually, I think it is a 'conspiracy.' There are several notable Cornell alums around ESPN, Dick Schaap was, Bill Pidto, I think Jeremy Schaap as well. I wouldn't be surprised if they are nudging the story. Much like back in the day (1995?) when our undefeated football team got a mention every Sunday night from Keith Olberman when the polls were released.

At least four alumni that I'm aware of:
Marc Schwarz '81
Bill Pidto '87
Jeremy Schaap '91
Whit Watson '93

There are also numerous PA's behind the scenes who have Cornell degrees.
Also, although the TV broadcast said "NCAA productions", it was really ESPN doing the work (all of the graphics had the ESPN look).

Age,
Looks like I can email the file (or at least permission for you to download it) via the Yahoo Briefcase interface. What email address would you like me to send it to?

Keith Olberman, as well. Who, I suspect, still has many ESPN ties despite having left the network.

I intentionally left Olbermann out. When he left Fox Sports a couple of years ago, I saw an article in USA Today about where he might go next. A quote from an ESPN exec: "[Olbermann] didn't burn his bridges - he napalmed them." He may have ties, but I doubt he's in their good graces.

Don't forget the Ithaca College alums, most of whom - like myself - got hooked on Cornell hockey while there.
Karl Ravech is the most prominent one - Chris Moore does ESPN Radio. The director of the selection show was an IC alum ... and there are at least a dozen more behind the scenes.

Yep - they just let the actual game audio run over the play. Okay by me - it was a great play-by-play call of the goal, and I just won't be able to see it too many times....
East vs. West

GopherHockeyGuy,
I think the difference in scoring has a lot to do with the different styles of play that prevail in east vs. west. It seems that the WCHA is very much a wide open run and gun league, esp. since they play a lot of games on Olympic Ice. (I haven't seen much WCHA hockey this year and only listened to a couple games, but that's my impression.) Back east there's a lot more emphasis on team defense and goaltending. The rinks are almost all NHL size. I'm generalizing a bit here, but the top goalies in the nation (statistically speaking) tend to be from the eastern schools, while the scoring leaders are almost all from the west.
Nice to see a westerner posting on our board. Just a hint - you'll probably get more response for a question like this if you ask it in a thread that wasn't dedicated to Sportscenter coverage and alums at ESPN.
