I've wanted to do this for a while, and the start of the season seems like a good point.

If everybody would post what they know about our alums' teams, I'll keep a compiled running list here.

I've decided to try and keep track of the dates of movements, up or down. So if you find a change, try and come up with the date.

Bardreau, Cole Lehigh Valley Phantoms (AHL)

Buckles, Matt Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL) Retired on 1/31/18 due to injuries.

Bardreau played in the Flyers' OT loss to the Isles on Sunday. Willcox didn't play.

Both are listed in "Group 2" for the split squad games tomorrow night. Group 1 is mostly the regular Flyers players. Group 2 is made up of rookies and minor leaguers.

Watching the replay of the Tuesday night Leafs-Sens game. Just had a Colin Greening sighting wearing #38 for the Leafs.

No idea whether he'll make the big club or not.

I'll put in a good word with Pete DeBoer!!

Other than Nash, Moulson and Ryan, I believe all the others have now been sent down, waived or cut.
Ryan played 24 minutes in the Sharks last preseason game, so he's been getting a good look. Hopefully he'll stick with the club.

Willcox definitely with the Phantoms. He played Friday and Saturday nights against Charlotte. Got a lot of time on the PK, and some nice comments from the TV announcers. Given that Haag made the big club, hopefully Reece will stick in LV and not wind up in Reading.

Bardreau has no chance of making the Flyers. The Phantoms announcers said as much on the Saturday broadcast. As soon as his injury heals, he'll be assigned to LV. Also, the Flyers are planning on carrying 8 d-men including Gostisbehere (who's hurt), so they waived Matt Read to make a roster space. No way there's space for Cole right now.

Kubes looked very good in his brief time with the Isles and got sent down to Bridegport. Snow made the right noises about being impressed. The lifers on the Isles' boards think he has potential as a later season spot call up to fill in for injuries. Not projected as a future regular, but he certainly has the chance -- it's up to him, now.

Ryan sent down http://www.mercurynews.com/2017/10/03/sharks-made-final-cuts-ahead-of-wednesdays-season-opener/

Bummer, sounds like he's playing very well. Think this has much to do with the fact that they can send him down without losing his rights vs some others needing to clear waivers.

Riley Nash had a busier night than usual (16:37 and won 8 of 13 faceoffs), in large part because of Bergeron’s absence. A power-play regular with the Hurricanes, the ex-Cornell standout has more game than he’s been asked to provide here in third- and fourth-line roles.

Just fabulous writing. On this the topic, but also useful in so many other discussions these days is Ken's sentence about science:

"It's also the story of science, of knowing better today than yesterday, but of never knowing for sure, because science never knows for sure, because what it knows today is only a placeholder for what it will know tomorrow."

Can't wait to read the book.

Jeff Kubiak and Mitch Gillam are playing for the Worcester Railers, coached by former Cornell assistant coach Jamie Russell.
Mitch has played two games, a shutout and a 5-1 loss.
Jeff picked up his first fighting penalty and a game misconduct in that 5-1 loss, and has one assist in 3 games.

He's not on the Olympic team yet. This is a pre-Olympic tournament. We can assume if he plays well, though, that he'll have a good shot.
"We are bringing together a group of players who are on our radar for the upcoming Olympic Winter Games as part of our ongoing evaluation process, with the goal of fielding the best possible team next February," Burke said in a statement.

Just Nash

But the plethora of injured Bruin forwards has forced [Bruins coach Bruce] Cassidy to mix and match his lines more than Cher changes wardrobes in concert. And that’s where Nash’s true value lies: he can play any line, with anyone, at any time.
(Cher? I did a seminar on automotive writing/reviewing for a group that included a lot of people 50-and-over. Said try not to backreference cars you had as a kid because that's long ago. If you make a musical reference, try to make it current. So one guy raises his hand, says, "You mean like Green Day?" [Facepalm.])

Metaphorically.

Not everyone is blessed with writing skills equal to their love of hockey or baseball. They labor in the minor leagues of sportswriting even covering a major league sport. They may be getting on in years and this is supplemental income (just not very much). Or they're kids who didn't have a place in college like the Daily Sun to polish their skills.
It is.
So sad.
<-- This writing reminds me of a long-ago Ithaca Journal publisher who decided it was his role in life to also cover Cornell hockey, coincidentally during the Dryden/Cropper years when seats were hard to come by in Lynah, let alone the old 2000-seat rink in Lake Placid. Most of his paragraphs were one sentence.

It has: Ethan Manderville, 6'4" 200lbs and eligible for the upcoming NHL draft, where he's a C-rated prospect. He's playing for the Ottawa Jr Senators, but was drafted by the Cedar Rapids Roughriders. He's also toward the top (top 10) of Heisenberg's roughly-sorted Eastern Canada recruits:

It has: Ethan Manderville, 6'4" 200lbs and eligible for the upcoming NHL draft, where he's a C-rated prospect. He's playing for the Ottawa Jr Senators, but was drafted by the Cedar Rapids Roughriders. He's also toward the top (top 10) of Heisenberg's roughly-sorted Eastern Canada recruits:

Not surprisingly, he wears #25.

I also stumbled on this other NHL-offspring while looking up the kid at the CCHL website: We could use some more muscle on the team... [www.thecchl.ca]

Kent was 21. I don't know what Kim was, but the sum is what he should wear if he comes here.

Riley just made a nice pass to a streaking teammate, resulting in a breakaway and go-ahead goal against the Pens. The game is nationally televised on NBC. 8 minutes remaining.

I’ve got two more additions:

Joe Deven is playing with the South Carolina Stingrays (ECHL)

John McCarron is playing with the Florida Everblades (ECHL)

Deven is actually the Stingrays captain.

Bruins' Riley Nash scores the second goal Weds. 11/29 as Bruins go up 3-0 on Tampa Bay, hold on for 3-2 win. Nash gets a shout-out from Kenny Albert for an all-round good game.

One change coming:

0 points in 14 GP with Buffalo this season. If he winds up in Rochester (AHL), he still gets paid his full NHL salary.

I suppose this is as good a place as any...

Watching the US vs Canada women's exhibition tonight on NHL Network/TSN. Final was 2-0 Canada, with both goals scored by Cornell alumnae. Jill Saulnier scored the first and Laura Fortino followed up with the empty netter.

Kind of hard to root against the USA, but with 5 Cornellians on Team Canada...

Yahoo Sports
Though rumours of the league potentially not allowing players to participate in the upcoming Olympic Games in South Korea continue to swirl, Scrivens will likely get the nod as Canada’s No. 1 goaltender to start the [Olympics] tournament should KHL players remain eligible. In 144 NHL games with the Maple Leafs, Kings, Oilers, and Canadiens, Scrivens authored a 2.92 GAA with seven career shutouts.

Riley Nash has been all over the ice for the Bruins in their last two games: 2 goals (including a shortie) and an assist in Wednesday's 5-1 win over Ottawa, and then another assist and several good chances to end it OT against Washington last night. The game was on Riley's stick as Boston's final chance in the shootout, but he failed to convert.

Congrats to Ben!

Is this the place to rant about how short-sighted the NHL is about allowing athletes to compete in the Olympics?
Of course, with the strict salary caps, the NHL is becoming more of an apprentice-master league with fewer in between athletes and so perhaps we ll see NHL-level competition in the Olympics anyway. Ben is a case in point.

DISCLAIMER: I don't actually know what I am talking about. Just annoyed at the NHL for their decision on the Olympics.

Riley Nash scored his 6th goal of the season last night into an empty net, giving Boston the 4-1 win over Montreal. Riley has now eclipsed last season's point total (7-10-17 in 81 GP) with 6-15-21 in only 44 GP so far.

No, Dustin Brown never played for Cornell. However he grew up in Ithaca, played youth hockey here and played for Ithaca High School. In 2003, he made it to the NHL playing for the LA Kings. He recently played his 1000th game for the Kings and they did a nice video to celebrate.
