The women beat Brown 3-1. Saulnier scored short-handed for the first goal -- highlight reel material if those responsible for highlight reels actually thought that women's sports were worth noting on a highlight reel.

It was a rusty effort by the women tonight, especially in the first period. To use a sports cliche, they found a way to win. The top line of Fulton-Campbell-Saulnier were frustrated for the most part, and Brown goaltender Aubrey Moore made her share of saves to keep her team in the game. There were several defensive lapses that Brown failed to take much advantage of--a clear sign of an inferior opponent. Brown's commentator, who's the same guy who does the men's games at Meehan, was an entertaining homer as usual (but he doesn't get as outraged during the women's games). Campbell took a penalty in the final minute of play which he thought was convinced was a dangerous hit from behind but replaying the video in slow-mo shows it was benign.

Women defeat Yale 3-0. Again, not our best effort but also we faced solid goaltending by Yale [35+ saves]. Most disappointing was our power play that only went 1 for 6/7 [haven't yet seen the box score so am relying on the stats provided by the Yale b'cast crew].

I thought Cornell dominated large portions of the game. They did a good job on FOs and outshot Harvard comfortably. The big difference to me was the goalie play.

ECAC Hockey suspends Cornell women’s forward Campbell one game.
At the 19:55 mark of the third period, Campbell was given a major penalty for hitting from behind and a game misconduct penalty.

Cornell escaped a tough game with Yale, scoring three times in the third to win 6-3. It was our first win in four games, and the first time over that stretch we scored more than 1 goal.
Standings:
1. 27 Hvd (1 extra GP)
2. 24 Clk
3. 23 Cor

Our next five games are against the four bottom teams in the ECAC, so hopefully there is momentum to do some serious damage.

I live in boston.
Was at a bar in Harvard square last night with my (Cornellian) wife. I was describing the game because she hadn't gotten to see it.
A lady next to us accosts us and says "devastating, wasn't it?" We get to taking. She says she's an assistant coach at Harvard, her boss is the clash for team USA, and some of her players are on the team.
She asks how we became hockey fans. I say through college. She asks where. We say we met at Cornell.
She gets this look.... And she knew. "You cheered for Canada, didn't you?"

Harvard lost to Yale on Friday, and didn't beat them during the regular season--all games with Machmeyer in net, I think. Also, Yale is the only ECAC team that Harvard didn't beat at least once this season. Coach Crowell probably just wanted to change things up, in an attempt to "solve" Yale. Lucky Harvard has two great goalies.

The ECAC will now charge us to watch the women's semi-finals and finals. IIRC, they used to be streamed free of charge.

Games are $9 each. No word on any post-season discounted package. Guess it is time for my annual email to Steve Hagwell.

Cornell vs. Harvard
4:00 PM

Boo.
You missed that we get to pay an extra dollar to watch on a mobile device!
The NCAA women's games are free. The conference needs to charge? For what? To make up a small fraction of the cost at the expense of losing casual fans who might actually go to games in the future? How many paying customers will they get per game? 50? That might be optimistic.
I've come to accept the playoff extortion on the men's side as the current reality but I'm be hard pressed to justify paying $9 each for as many as 7 games. That's basically a whole season on ILDN.

Considering most rinks can't even reach 50% capacity to see a game in person and for free, I would guess the entire audience will be family members too far to travel.
It's worse than a crime; it's a blunder.
You all know what's next I assume? Charging double price for a full playoff package of mens and womens games. You know: added value for their customers!

The ECAC will now charge us to watch the women's semi-finals and finals. IIRC, they used to be streamed free of charge.

Games are $9 each. No word on any post-season discounted package. Guess it is time for my annual email to Steve Hagwell.
Here's a great message for Steve:

I got a response from Steve Hagwell. In it he said that the women's ECAC championship game will be streamed live on ESPN3. Only the semi-finals will be PPV on America One.
Does Clarkson (or Q) provide free audio for women's hockey? I would listen to the audio for that, and then pay for the Cornell video.

Clarkson wipes up Quinnipiac 6-0 in the first ECAC semifinal at Cheel. They await the winner of Cornell-Harvard, which starts at 4 pm.

And they move to second in USCHO PWR. I don't know how acurate that is.

BU just tied BC 2-2 in third. If BU wins, Mercyhurst is tossed out. RIT won CHA and will be 8. If BU wins, I think we play them, if BC then Mercyhurst?

If BC live stats is correct, BU beats BC 3-2 to take the Hockey East title. According to USCHO's pwr table, that should knock Mercyhurst out, and put BU as the #7 seed.
The women's bracket supposedly comes out at 6 pm tonight.

I don't think CHA has an auto-bid yet, and even if it did, RIT is ineligible for the NCAA tournament as part of its transition from D-III to D-I. Robert Morris could represent CHA as an at-large selection.

BU @ #1 Minnesota Saturday 3/15 @ 5 pm (EDT)
Harvard @ #4 Wisconsin Saturday 3/15 @ 8 pm (EDT)
Mercyhurst @ #2 Cornell Saturday 3/15 @ 3:30 pm (per Mercyhurst's website, listed as tentative start time)
BC @ #3 Clarkson Saturday 3/15 at 4 pm per the Clarkson MICE announcers.
Games are on either Friday or Saturday. I guess to be announced shortly by the host schools.
Bummer that three of the games will be airing concurrently.

I thought the talking head who read the pairings said the games would be held on 14th/15th. Given that the FF is in Hamden, CT, I would suspect that Minnesota and Wisconsin would prefer to have Friday games to give the winners an extra day for practice travel back east.Jim Hyla

Interestingly, the ECAC title game had the largest attendance of the 4 leagues. That includes BU-BC and Minny-N Dak. Those 2 were not on home ice, however.

Yes. I'm happy for them, really. Thrilled that an Eastern team finally broke through. The 1st Eastern team to win this NCAA tournament since it began in 2001. Clarkson has only had a team since 2004.
Then the memory of the 3OT loss in 2010 marches into my brain, and the hurting starts. Again.
Goddammit.
