Hopefully it goes better than the last time one of our alumni got traded to the Panthers. If he makes it to the NHL, does that change your opinion on going to Panthers games, Rita?

Let's see if Brendon is still around next season. Bitz had only a handful of games (7) with Florida, but to be fair, he got traded here before the new regime took over. If he is and if Riley can move to the big club, maybe I'll make it a Panther/Hurricane "Nash double feature". I was never a big fan of Brendon's (but wasn't a card-carrying member of the Bash Brendon club either).
I did look to see when Colin Greening was coming to town, but the dates, next Thursday (1/24) and the Sunday before the Frozen Four, won't entice me to shell out for tickets.

Not a terrible situation for Brendon to be in. The Panthers' defensive core is pretty old other than Erik Gudbranson (Jovanovski and Campbell and Kuba and Weaver are all in their mid-30s), and Hockeysfuture.com calls lack of offensive defensemen the biggest weakness of Florida's system, so if Nash can be puck-moving defenseman at the pro level (which was his role in his season at Hamilton a couple of years ago), he might find better opportunities there than he did in Montreal.Ronald '09

Is he really considered a puck-moving defenseman as a pro? I like him a lot but didn't think that he had either the wheels or the vision to be considered that.......I thought it was more about his size and intelligence. I haven't seen him play since his Cornell days.

I don't know if he is, thus the "if" form of my statement. I think it's at least possible that he is; for the Bulldogs in 2010-11 he was second on the team among defensemen in points and fourth among all players in assists, and my recollection (which, of course, is not infallible) is that he played a lot on the power play. I guess we'll see how things work out in the Panthers organization.RatushnyFan

Not our alum, but via USCHO and Colgate, here is the video of Austin Smith's ESPN #2 Highlight backhanded goals. Although they favor the second goal, I think the first is better.

Scrivens and Leafs win opener at Montreal 2-1. Scrivens gets first star with 21 saves.
Greening had a good assist on the Sens' GWG, winning a battle behind the net and passing it out to Karlsson, with Neil putting in the rebound.

Nice article about Scrivens after last night's game.
Sounds familiar:
"In paying Scrivens that compliment, Carlyle was quick to add a jab about Scrivens’ behind-the-net adventures on Saturday, when the goaltender found himself flat on his keister on a puck-handling mission gone awry.
“I like to get out there and try and help the D-men if I can,” Scrivens said.
Said Carlyle, somewhat grimly: “I think at times he tries to play defence back there. We’d like to eliminate that.”

Heh. I was too quickly scanning the article and at first glance I thought it said
Laughing to myself, I thought "It might be Toronto, but it's still Canada."
perhaps because he often heads off to work in a lumberjack jacket and a black toque.
“I try to keep a low profile,” the 26-year-old Scrivens was saying on Monday. “Everyone thinks I’m going to a wedding or something.”

The good news is Moulson got a second goal. The bad news is Scrivens let in 5 and got chased.

Colin Greening just netted his first goal of the season against the Pens to tie things up at 1 for Ottawa.
It appears that Colin has been moved back up to the top line with Spezza and Michalek where he spent parts of last season.
