The Dartmouth homer announcer was saying something about how Cornell has some rule exemption for the tubas [sic] to play behind the visitor bench even if play is on-going. I always remember them waiting for a stoppage, and usually getting ti all done before play resumes. Is there something that I'm not recalling correctly, or does our tradition deserve some extra rule exemption as the uppity guy points out Thompson Rink doesn't get?

The Dartmouth players, including Devine, were being very cocky and provocative towards the end of the game, taunting the Cornell players--not classy at all, and pretty stupid considering the series is not over yet. They say hockey teams are reflective of the coach, and it certainly holds true for these guys. This is war, my friends. Tomorrow we bring the heat.

Are you allowed to leave the game and come back. I have a mandatory meeting right in the middle of tomorrows game, if I want to be there for the end, can I not come to the beginning?
yes, as long as you have your ticket

The Dartmouth players, including Devine, were being very cocky and provocative towards the end of the game, taunting the Cornell players--not classy at all, and pretty stupid considering the series is not over yet. They say hockey teams are reflective of the coach, and it certainly holds true for these guys. This is war, my friends. Tomorrow we bring the heat.
Why wouldn't they? They smell blood. Cornell has lost 3 of their last 4 playoff games at Lynah. Cornell got out-skated and out-worked tonight. Dartmouth has been chompin' at the bit both nights -- they're the first team out of the locker before warmups, before each period, and they have nothing to lose. Cornell has brought very little intensity to the rink this weekend.
The good news is that they never quit and they're battling out there. The puck didn't bounce their way tonight.

We won't carry the misconduct penalty into the next game , will we?

Let's see, no intensity; 43 shots on goal, 9 shots on 7 PP & 1 goal (1 SHG); on PK, 3 shots given up on 6 opportunities; 20 SOG in third period.ithacatimafrshmn

Our problem was not a lack of intensity (I'd take those stats for any game), but a failure to cover up on defense. Many too many 2 on 1 and near breakaways.

Am I alone in noticing that Doug Krantz seems to be getting beat an inordinate number of times (leading to 2-on-1 & breakaways) the past couple of weekends?

True, he's trying to get more involved in the offense, but what comes first?

Under Mike Schafer? Defense comes first.

Much better performance tonight for Cornell despite the result. They had a lot more energy and got after it a lot more. Dartmouth had four great chances and scored on all of them. Cornell had about 15 and scored on three of them. Devine was outstanding and put forth one of the better individual performances I've ever seen at the college level. It wasn't that Scrivens was bad (only the third goal was questionable); he played fine but Devine was a lot better so goaltending was the difference. It would be nice if Scrivens can elevate his game tomorrow as Devine did tonight and make some big saves. Tonight would have been a blowout for Cornell if not for Devine.
Still baffling that Schafer puts the fourth line out in the third period when the team is down by two goals. Every shift that line is out is one where they aren't going to score. They're a great shutdown line but when you need a goal (or two), they should not leave the bench.
Good move by Schafer to pull the goaltender to give them the 6-on-4 and get them that third goal.
The Barlow-Gallagher-Devin line is brutal and not contributing a thing. Barlow has gotta contribute more at this point in his career though he has never gotten much confidence going because he makes one bad play for every good one he makes (last night's neutral zone turnover that led to the powerplay goal against).
That was one of the better games I've seen Cornell play this year and they will usually win after performances like that so if they can do it again tomorrow, I think the result will be different.
Tomorrow will be a good character test for a lot of these guys. First period will be key. I think back to last year when Cornell gave up that very early goal against Quinnipiac in Game 2 and they never seemed to recover emotionally from that. Same thing happened in Game 3 against Clarkson in 04. The start will huge.

Good performance on PK by a team that has better talent. Ok. Lots of shots on goal for 20 minutes. Ok.
Intensity to me is about effort, focus, and attention to detail in all phases of the game. I didn't see that for close to 60 minutes. It's probably an unfair expectation to have.

I'm afraid I can no longer be optimistic about our chances. I said before the Saturday game that we gave them hope by letting DC stay in the Friday game. Yes, we scored a late goal & won. But, they now realize that they CAN play at CU's level. Despite any territorial or shot advantage, on Cornell's part, DC was able to get a victory in CU's barn, in a playoff game no less.
Tonight, DC will be confident. Mix that confidence with the talent that they have. And, you have a recipe for a season-ending game for Cornell.
I'm sorry for the negative prediction. And I hope I'm wrong.
Edit after the 6-0 CU win......Jesus, I suck as a prognosticator!!

It's big shoes to fill when I follow in the footsteps of people like Doug and Ari. When you want to define a true Lynah faithful from the student section, these are the people you look to. They live and die with every goal scored. I am honored to have the privilege of being put in the same category as them.
I made it to all the home games this year and half the road games. However, next season, wherever the team happens to be, so too will the cowbell: from Tech all the way down to Florida. I look forward to putting more faces to the names of the elynah faithful and hope many of you will introduce yourselves to me.
None of us have the insight that Ari has into the team, and I can't say I'm best friends with all the hockey players, but I do know a thing or two about the game and about Cornell hockey. I will be applying for a hockey column in the Sun for the next two years, and god willing it'll happen. If not, I plan on reviving the weekly columns on elynah.
I think (or hope) I speak on behalf of everyone when I say a very big thank you to Doug for bringing so much passion game in and game out this year.
Edit: I don't mean to imply tonight will be the last time Doug plays the cowbell. The team will win tonight.

Good luck to you. As your first executive action, please see Age to get the correct cowbell cadence.
As your second action, please recruit a washboard player. Somebody finally did it at MSG this year for the first time in about 20 seasons, and it brought back great memories.

Old-timer, I'm afraid you're going to have to explain what a "washboard" is to some of these young'uns.

I am just now re-reading the game thread. It was an honor to have the privledge to pass cowbell duties on to Mitch, who apparently both elynah and the Cornell Daily Sun dub a worthy successor.
I can't wait to come back to games an an alum, but I know Lynah will never be the same experiance it was for me these past four years. Right now though I am thankful that I have at least one more weekend to enjoy Cornell hockey as a student member of the faithful.
