The team looks a little slow now. Everybody needs to turn it up a notch to keep the lead.

Not nearly enough skating in the defensive zone tonight. Against a hard-working team it's simply not acceptable. That will lead to a lot of goals against and I feel has been an intermittent problem all year.

Dirty cross check from behind against the board. He was kinda riding him into the boards, but did a cross check at the last second and Scali went head first into the boards. Scali is up and to the bench under his own power though.

Don't know, but he definitely flipped out. You could hear muted screaming from several members of the Cornell bench, caught well by the cameras. Sawada, Mugford and Scott all taking serious exception. Don't know what he could have done to get the misconduct except say something to the red.

Recall a 10 minute misconduct does not effect manpower on the ice. So the 5 is worse.
Although now Seminoff takes a high sticking 2 minutes.

Looks a little woozy on the bench as you'd expect. Possibly concussed, though doesn't look like anything else, or severe. Standing up during the timeout, which is a good sign.

Lots of heavy hits by RPI tonight and not a lot of reciprocity. You can tell they've been playing in the west a lot this year. Scali, Gallager and Scrivens will be sore tomorrow.

I liked the "Scrivens can't be the player of the game he was bad, give it to Sawada" by the announcer. The goal given up by Scrivens wasn't really all that bad, and he played well the rest of the game.

Good quality shots for the most part, but 13 shots is not going get it done against better defenses

I liked the "Scrivens can't be the player of the game he was bad, give it to Sawada" by the announcer. The goal given up by Scrivens wasn't really all that bad, and he played well the rest of the game.
I laughed at that too. However, where as we know that's how he plays, and typically does very well with his style, I can imagine how someone unfamiliar with Scrivens would think he had an off game.
I'd like to say that the color man (Broad I think) was pretty informative and very even-handed. Very impressive for a former RPI player, only 1 year out.

Delayed whistle rule
Posted by: David Harding (---.hsd1.il.comcast.net)
Date: January 11, 2008 10:14PM
Just for the recordBCrespi
That's a great point. I didn't think about that. At what point are they do blow it dead? With control or just after the first touch by the goaltender? He did appear to bobble the puck on its/his way into the net, but certainly touched it in front of the goal line.
2006 Rule Book
c. The appropriate on-ice official shall use a “delayed whistle” when a foul is committed against the team in possession of the puck, thereby postponing the stoppage of play until the offending team shall have possession and control of the puck.
The last player to control the puck, other than the goalkeeper, is the last player to be deemed in possession of the puck. Control of the puck is defined as the act of propelling the puck with the stick, hand or skate.
Possession and control is not a rebound off the goalkeeper, an opposing player, the goal or the boards or any incidental contact with the body or equipment of an opposing player. Batting the puck with the hand or kicking the puck is considered to be controlling the puck. Touching the puck (e.g., poke check or deflection) is not considered control of the puck.
During a delayed penalty, a goal may not be scored by the penalized team as a result of a deflection off of a penalized team player.

Yeah, the rule is not in question... I wasn't clear on whether Scrivens had control or not before falling backwards.

Cornell's leading the league in penalty minutes per game (that is...with the highest). But also in scoring defense.

I recognized that you understood the rule, but having less interesting things that I should be doing, I decided to check the exact wording. Having spent that energy, I couldn't resist sharing the information for the possible benefit of anyone else with a less reliable memory of the rule book.
