Ivy – Princeton (#14 RPI, #29 SOS, QWs – Villanova(12)) – The Ivies are looking more and more like a one-bid league. The winner of Princeton-Cornell earns the right to host the Ivy tournament.

[cornellsun.com]

Erin Ellis, Cornell Daily Sun
If the [academic calendar] changes are passed by the Faculty Senate [first since 1984], the University would add two vacation days in February; condense the exam study period from seven days to four and exam week from eight days to six; shorten Senior Week from seven days to three; and change the Wednesday before Thanksgiving from a half day to a full day off. Additionally, Slope Day would fall on a Wednesday, rather than a Friday.

This is perhaps to encourage less Slope Day intoxication because the date, like some students, would fall on a weekday? Story also says that even with fewer exam days, the odds of exam conflicts would be minimized because Cornell would use a scheduling algorithm, says Cornell. Now there's a formula worth seeing.

Why doesn't Cornell look at the quarterly system? You can start after Labor Day, have time for a week at Thanksgiving, and still finish by mid-December. If the spring semester finishes a couple weeks later, that's not a bad thing. Ithaca gets nicer in late May and early June. It does mean spending an extra week or two in Ithaca in January for the start of winter semester.

Enough for a separate April thread on lacrosse? The Feb-March discussion is getting lengthy.

Against Syracuse (4/10), Cornell doubles the Orange 12-6 for its 700th win and (did I hear this right) now the nation's longest (longest home?) winning streak.

The Cornell-Hobart game is still listed as Postponed not Cancelled but when can it be played? Cornell has Saturday free but probably doesn't want to insert a Tuesday or Wednesday game in advance of Brown(home) or Princeton (away) and then it's Ivy Tournament weekend. If no game, Hobart should have tried to harder (like make a phone call?) to use the Carrier Dome the weekend of the postponement.

Let's hope Rob Pannell is healing.

1. Minnesota
3. North Dakota
4. Notre Dame
5. Cornell
The Big Red came within a game of the Frozen Four last year and lose just two forwards off the team. Three of their top six forwards were Freshmen, including Brian Ferlin who missed time with a shoulder injury. Also returning is goalie Andy Iles, who had a .919 save percentage and should have been Jack Campbell’s backup at World Juniors (I will not let that go). Nick D’Agostino has developed into one of the more steady defensemen in the country, and Joakim Ryan had a great Freshman year, with 7 goals and 17 points from the blueline. NTDPer Gavin Stoick is probably their best recruit, but their coolest one is undoubtedly Teemu Tiitinen, who is Finnish but grew up in Georgia before playing with the Stars AAA team.

It's right by the rink and the reservation was made last April. If anyone wants it, I can probably just transfer it to you if I get your name and credit card number. I've already done this for a fellow ELFer for another reservation I had at the Hilton Garden Inn down there, and it wasn't a problem changing it.
I just figured that before I canceled, there might be someone here who could benefit from it.
